Latest in Beauty Box

Getting nostalgic for a moment about my old blogging life, I realised after searching for a good beauty box that I was there at the birth of beauty boxes in this country. I probably was even amongst the first to sign up for Glossybox. I remember the debates between bloggers about how good, or bad it would be. Then the initial hiccups, the lovers, the haters, the mehs.

And now five years on, there are so many different beauty boxes to choose from, catering from the younger generation (So Susan) to those on a budget (Glossybox, You Beauty Discovery, Birchbox) to those who don't mind spending more but don't want a monthly subscription (Latest in Beauty, U Feel Unique) Even specialising in certain areas such as nails (Nail Box) or for vegans (LoveLula) or those who want organic products (Naturisimo) and that's not even an exhaustive list.

There were so many in fact that when I decided I wanted to try them again, the only way I managed to make a decision about which box to buy was the fact that Latest in Beauty allowed you to choose your own contents. Less surprise and more delight for me, having had a few too many boxes in the past containing makeup products that were completely wrong for my skin tone. It also isn't subscription based which is ideal for just trying it out, as no one wants to sign up for something to discover they hate it.

Anyway, putting nostalgia aside for a moment I just wanted to quickly run through what I had in my box;

First up, Nude Progenius Rescue Oil.
"An ultra-sheer, skin-saving oil that revives and smoothes skin texture with powerful antioxidant protection. ProGenius Omega Treatment Rescue Oil is all-natural and vegan."

As I'm on the search for anti-aging lotions and potions I thought this would be a great start. It contains bakuchiol, which is apparently 'nature’s answer to retinol but without the negative side effects,' coleus root and organic rosemary extracts, which 'work to clarify the complexion' and antioxidant-rich ingredients to 'provide environmental protection.' It will be used and reviewed at a later date.

Next I had, StriVectin - Intensive Illuminating Serum.
"A lightweight skin brightening formula that diminishes dull skin, evens skin tone and enhances overall clarity."

Another one that really piqued my interest, it claims to 'minimise the effect of environmental aggressors while encapsulated skin-brightening ingredients target the key causes of discoloration. Over time, dark spots, age spots and discoloration are less visible for a more even complexion. Skin texture is smoother and more refined with a radiant, youthful glow.'

Not that I have age spots, or even any discolouration on my skin, anything that will refine it, make me glow and hold back the hands of time is worth at least a try. I'm currently using this now as part of my routine, a full review will follow.

Now we have a perfume sample, Elie Saab, Le Parfum, not something I would have walked into a shop and bought to be be honest.
"Opening with notes of orange blossom. Jasmine is in the heart, including both Grandiflorum and Sambac, whereas the base consists of cedar, patchouli and rose honey accord."

However, even though I've only been wearing this the past couple of days I think a bottle of it will find it's way onto my dresser before long. It's beautiful.

The only full size item I got, was the next one, Dr Organic Royal Jelly Eye Serum, I've already written about Dr Organic coconut day cream previously so I really want to see how this goes.
"A light cream formulated to nourish and smooth the delicate skin around the eyes. It helped diminish fine lines and wrinkles helping boost collagen stability, reducing under eye puffiness and dark circles while providing firming and long lasting moisturising protection."

My eyes are my biggest concern right now as I am rapidly developing fine lines underneath them, added to the constant tired eye effect I have going on I think my eyes are aging me. To be able to perk them up would be a miracle and after reading that royal jelly, has '17 Amino Acids, Vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, C and E, along with Biotin, Niacin and Folic Acid' in it I'm hopeful. I'm currently using this as part of my skincare routine and will post a full review at a later date.

Lastly, as regards skincare, because there was also a candle which I won't be featuring here, but by no means least. MOA (Magic Organic Apothecary) The Green Balm.
"The Green Balm is a 100% natural multi-purpose healing/beauty balm, and some might say, it’s a miracle! This cult product is crammed with MOA’s hero herb yarrow, used for centuries to heal and repair, keep a little pot handy for any little crisis."

I've started using this on my lips, I suffer dreadfully with a chapped lip line, my actual lips are strangely enough fine, but my lip line is always raw making me look like I'm rocking the red lip liner look.

So far, and after only a few days, I'm loving it. So much so I want a bath full to wallow in. I will do a full review at a later date.

So there we have it, once I've used up these products I might try another companies box, or I may fill another one from Latest in Beauty.

Next time on the blog.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24hr Foundation

What beauty box do you use, or would recommend? I'd love to hear other peoples opinions.

  1. I love LIB Build your Own Box! So good. I used to get Love Lula but now pick up ones which you don't need to subscribe to like from Net-a-Porter, Pure Natural Box and Letterbox gifts.

    1. I think most of those boxes are new from when I was last on the scene, I know the biggest issue for me with Glossybox was getting makeup samples that would never suit my skin colour. Half the products I would get would be useless so I thought it a waste of my money. Building my own is so much better for that reason.
