EOS Organic Lip Balm in Coconut Milk

I'm one of those kind of people who, regardless of the weather, if I'm not wearing lip balm while outside my lips will just split and bleed. It's all kinds of crazy considering I have fairly oily skin, but neither my lips nor my hands feel the benefit from that. You can imagine then how many lip balms I tend to go through, not just because I use them all up but because some aren't actually any good for my lips.

So it was with a slight amount of trepidation I decided to buy one of the often lauded EOS lip balms, in particular;

EOS Organic Lip Balm Coconut Milk:

A picture of EOS lip balm in coconut

It's a nice novelty for me to have a lip balm in a little pot like this that I don't have to stick my finger in, I hate having to stick my fingers into balms it's just not hygienic. It's also a nice touch having the balm rounded rather than in stick form which gets boring after a while, there's not much you can do to make lip balms exciting but EOS certainly funked these up.

A picture of EOS lip balm in coconut

I've found it to be a pretty good lip balm so far, it coats my lips fully and doesn't lip off in five minutes, it feels rich and moisturising and has helped reduce the peely flakey splity issues I get with my lips. The one downside for me is the taste and smell, it's not coconut, it's almost pure sugar. Smells sweet, tastes sweet, I can look past that but I would have prefered a more coconut scent/taste.

You can find it at many online sites but I bought mine from here for £5.99.

Hugo Boss Femme

Signature fragrances, we all have one no matter how many other perfumes we dabble with or even love. Some come to us after trial and error, others you just know from the first spray it's the scent for you.

My signature fragrance and the one most my scarfs smell of is Hugo Boss Femme.

a picture of Hugo Boss Femme

From its launch in 2006 to the present day, ten years have passed and I've never been without a bottle of this lushiousness.

Radiant. Soft. Smooth. Femme by BOSS exudes an aura of captivating femininity.
The subtle, lingering warmth of the fragrance is sublimely sophisticated and modern.
An enticing experience and the most liberatingly feminine fragrance from BOSS.
Femme by BOSS is harmony in a bottle; a scent metaphor for modern femininity.
Projected by the fruity top notes of tangerine and blackcurrant, the fragrance is grounded in a creamy, musk-like base.
This works with the white floral trio of stephanotis, rose and oriental lily to leave behind just a subtle, warm aura of the scent.

Despite its name I've never felt this is a perfume for girly girls, after all, beauty blog or not, I'm not the girliest of girls, it's just a scent that makes me feel happy at heart, warm and comforting and oh so familiar after 10 years of wearing it. It's what I chose to wear on my wedding day and what I spray on before any big event even though I own lots of other lovely perfumes.

a picture of Hugo Boss Femme

I dread the day they discontinue this, when I hear that day approaches I'll stock up on it, enough to last me another few decades at least.

Top Note:

Tangerine, Blackcurrant Buds, Freesia

Heart Note:

Oriental Lily, Staphanotis, Rose Petal

Base Note:

Musky Notes, Apricot, Satinwood

30ml is £24.99 or 50ml is £26.99 from here.

What is your signature fragrance or are you still searching for yours?

Cow Brand Mutenka Makeup Cleansing Oil

For years I've been a huge fan of hot cloth cleansers like Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish or Bee Good's Honey & Propolis Cream Cleanser so it never really occurred to me to use a cleansing oil even though I've read plenty about them being used to double cleanse, added to that the fact I wear little makeup always made me feel like I didn't need to double cleanse as the cream cleansers always took off what I wore fully.

So this has been sitting to one side for a while now, sealed and unloved, until in a desire to use up what I have, I unsealed it and started to use it.

Collection Blush in Bashful

(The Brand formerly known as Collection 2000)

Just because it's a drugstore brand and cheaper than many of its competitors doesn't mean we should overlook the ever trusty Collection brand, it's been around since I was a little girl and I grew up using it in my teens back when it was known as Collection 2000. I have to admit I still to this day call it Collection 2000 but I guess that's me showing my age.

It's no secret I don't wear a great deal of makeup, but that I do have a love for blushers, part of the reason I cover so many on my blog, for example the Makeup Revolution palettes Golden Sugar and Sugar & Spice.

I always carry Collection's Lasting Perfection Concealer around in my handbag but this post is about the Collection blush called Bashful, and I'll cover the concealer another day.

Another month has gone by and another post with what I've managed to use up is upon us. I don't seem to have as many products this month as I did in April's Product Empties post though, I need to up my game a bit.

My holy grail of cleansers and the one I go back to buy time and time again, I finished my most recent bottle this month and I'm actually trying out some other cleansers at the moment so while I will be re-purchasing it won't be for a short time at least.

Paul Mitchell Re Works

Today I'm talking about my hair, my hair which used to be very long and got progressively shorter since I moved to Wales, a quick timeline of my hair includes;

Pre 2010 also pre Wales, I had long, un-dyed hair natural hair I did nothing to. (1)

2011, I cut it from the long length of picture (1) to the bob in picture (2), and dyed it red. This was when I was blogging before and how I came up with the name of M(r)s Red's Beauty Blog.

2014, got bored of short, red hair due to the constant need to redo my roots, dyed it blonde (near enough my natural shade) and grew it out, also the year I got married, hence the up do. (3)

2015, quickly got bored of having long hair again and chopped it off, also went through a pink phase, which also didn't last due to upkeep. (4)

Today in 2016 my hair is blonde, because I'm too lazy to deal with the upkeep on funky colours, and short, because it's so damn easy to look after. (5)

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara

I'm very picky when it comes to mascara having tried many different ones out over the years, the biggest failing many have for me is that they end up under my eyes giving me the ever fetching raccoon look rather than remaining on my lashes where they belong.

I've tried high end and high street mascaras and have had similar issues with both varieties, although in my opinion the high end mascaras are even 'softer' than high street mascaras and smudge easier.

I also only like brown mascara for the simple fact that black mascara is too harsh for me being very pale with fair hair naturally, and I dislike waterproof mascara because I end up losing eyelashes removing it.

So after that long list of thing I dislike, what do I like?

Deciem Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age

Deciem Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age Advanced Serum

The Claims

For multi-depth rehydration and visible reduction in lines and irregularities

A highly active concentrate of advanced hyaluronic complexes, next-generation peptides and biotechnological technologies to target rehydration on and below skin surface, while visibly improving lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and textural damage.

The Ingredients

Aqua, Glycerin, Ethoxydiglycol, Hydrolyzed Yeast Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Pentylene Glycol, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Californicum Ferment Extract, Saccharide Isomerate, Copper Lysinate/Prolinate, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Myristoyl Nonapeptide-3, Ahnfeltia Concinna Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methylglucoside Phosphate, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Polyglucuronic Acid, Hexylene Glycol, Salicylic Acid, Lecithin, Phospholipids, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate.

The Immediate Concerns

There's a lot of scientific type talk with this product so I've had a bit of a hard time understanding what the ingredients are let alone what they do. I also notice a few of my least favourite ingredients in the list but thankfully at the end of the ingredients list rather than higher up, although I wish they weren't there to start with. Especially phenoxyethanol which is used as a preservative yet they have luconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate in there which negates the need for the phenoxyethanol.

How Did It Fair?

It contains a whole heap of ingredients designed to help fight lines and wrinkles, included but not limited to several forms of hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights (this is where my eyes started to cross but I know hyaluronic acid is the ingredient of the year so more hyaluronic acid can only be a good thing.)

It also contains something called Matrixyl Synthe 6 which is made of palmitoyl tripeptide-38, used widely in skincare to help boost collagen and support existing collagen, and copper lysinate/prolinate which aids the penetration, enhance stability and aids collagen support/production.

This is a very gel like liquid serum which comes in a glass bottle with a dropper to apply it with, which I kinda like because it makes me feel a bit mad scientist when I'm applying it. I've noticed that it sinks in super fast and leaves no tackiness or stickiness behind, you'd think you hadn't applied a thing to be honest but it does really plump the skin out.

My Conclusion

I think this is a really good serum that makes my skin plump out, although I don't have sagging skin at my age, I do have the start of fine lines and I have noticed my frowny lines look softer after consistent use of the serum. I love the way it absorbs into the skin so quickly without any residue.

I was very lucky when I bought mine, as it was on sale for £3.00 (I'm not joking, I just wish I'd picked up more) as it is usually £30.00 from Boots.

Strivectin Illuminating Serum

I chose Strivectin's Illuminating Serum in my 'build a box' from Latest in Beauty primarily from the claims that it would "diminish dull skin, even skin tone and enhance overall clarity," of the skin. My skin isn't particularly dull but I do have different skin tones across my face, from perfectly decent to the Rudolph the red nosed reindeer affect and a few other shades in-between. So anything that could even out those tones would get a thumbs up from me.

Blog Announcement and Giveaway News

Blog Announcement & Giveaway News

From today 7th April 2016 I will be posting twice or three times a week rather than daily as I have been doing, it was always my plan to slow down to two or three times a week but first I just wanted to get some content on my blog, hence the daily posts since I re-started last month.

The main reasons behind posting less often is because I work full time, I am also chief chef, bottle washer, house keeper, food shopper etc and also I have health issues, not least amongst them insomnia, that leads to sheer exhaustion on a regular basis, so I physically cannot keep up with posting every single day.

I do hope I won't lose anyone who reads my blog often because of my decision to slow down a bit, I just don't want to burnout.

Something I do have coming up in the next week however, is a giveaway. This is to say thank you to all those readers who have helped my blog reach 5000 views within one month, which I'm so chuffed with I can't tell you.

The primary part of the giveaway will be the chance to win what you voted for in my poll, a MAC palette x 9 eyeshadows as you see below;

Skin Food Honey Black Tea Cleansing Cream.

So, I wanted to try some Korean beauty products after hearing more and more about them of late, and me being me, I found a recommended Korean website (RoseRoseShop) that sells them and looked for something to catch my interest, the most scientific and reasoned way of trying new products right?

After a while browsing I come across Skin Food Honey Black Tea Cleansing Cream, now I'm a huge tea lover, and I also love honey so I'm sold, I don't even check reviews online, I just pop it in my basket and clicked buy.

It also helps that Korean Won is converted into American Dollars, which as we all know is less than our Pound Sterling, so 5,390 the price of the honey black tea cleansing cream, translated to $4.81 or £3.37, total bargain.

I would have liked to have shown you how my hands looked during that time but I haven't any photos as I no longer get into that state for one reason and one reason only.

Makeup Revolution London - Ultra Blush Palette in Sugar and Spice

I've said it before and I'll probably say it again about how I'm not the worlds biggest makeup wearer, I know that's slightly odd for a beauty blogger but I think it's totally possible. One of the few makeup products I do wear though is blusher, and that is because I am so pale that without some blush I would look like a ghost.

Not to be left blusher-less I popped into Superdrug intending to buy Revolution London Ultra Blush Palette in Golden Sugar, however my Superdrug was sold out so I grabbed the Sugar and Spice palette instead.

Eyebrow Grooming

Eyebrows, pretty much all of us have them, and we all groom them at some point or another, but what method do we choose and why.

I know I started off plucking my eyebrows back in my teens, it was cheap, the cost of a pair of tweezers and you could do it at home. Back then I don't think there was much of a focus on eyebrows as a fashion statement as much as they are these days with "eyebrow trends". The pressure is on for a great pair of brows.

But whatever trend you follow and whatever shape you choose depends on you and your preferences; so here is a quick low down of some pros and cons of eyebrow shaping.

Latest in Beauty Box

Getting nostalgic for a moment about my old blogging life, I realised after searching for a good beauty box that I was there at the birth of beauty boxes in this country. I probably was even amongst the first to sign up for Glossybox. I remember the debates between bloggers about how good, or bad it would be. Then the initial hiccups, the lovers, the haters, the mehs.

And now five years on, there are so many different beauty boxes to choose from, catering from the younger generation (So Susan) to those on a budget (Glossybox, You Beauty Discovery, Birchbox) to those who don't mind spending more but don't want a monthly subscription (Latest in Beauty, U Feel Unique) Even specialising in certain areas such as nails (Nail Box) or for vegans (LoveLula) or those who want organic products (Naturisimo) and that's not even an exhaustive list.

There were so many in fact that when I decided I wanted to try them again, the only way I managed to make a decision about which box to buy was the fact that Latest in Beauty allowed you to choose your own contents. Less surprise and more delight for me, having had a few too many boxes in the past containing makeup products that were completely wrong for my skin tone. It also isn't subscription based which is ideal for just trying it out, as no one wants to sign up for something to discover they hate it.

Anyway, putting nostalgia aside for a moment I just wanted to quickly run through what I had in my box;

Today's star is the Blue Bottle

The Claims

"This 2% daily salicylic acid exfoliator is the perfect choice for treating skin complaints such as blackheads, enlarged pores, congested skin and acne where the skin is oily. Because these skin conditions are caused by the skin being clogged by excess oil and dead skin, using a peel daily will give far superior results than using a stronger peel once a week."
