Elizabeth Arden 8hr Cream

A picture of Elizabeth Arden 8hr Cream

The Claims

"Moisturise and protect anytime, anyway you choose. Shape brows, revitalise shine, soothe dry hands and smooth cuticles and nails. Also for symptoms of chapping, peeling or flaking due to minor burns, sunburn, windburn, scrapes, abrasions or cracked lips."

The Ingredients

Petrolatum 56.8%, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Iron Oxides.

The Immediate Concerns

Oh boy, petrolatum and mineral oil, not my two favourite ingredients, they have their place and in something that aims to protect the skin from chapping etc they come in useful. Both create a layer on the skin that traps moisture in next to the skin, stopping the drying effect of say wind, on delicate areas, like lips. I also hate seeing fragrance so high on an ingredients list but other people may not mind it so much.

How Did It Fair

I've really only ever used this on my lips and hands to stop the wind from chapping them, and for that it works amazingly well because as stated above, the ingredients stop moisture from being wicked away causing the drying effect we all know and hate. A tiny bit goes a long, long way. I can see this being incredibly useful for anyone who is outside a lot, or who gets their skin wet a lot.

My Conclusion

This is something I'd use to stop my skin from drying out in the first place, but it wouldn't be what I reached for if my skin had already dried out and I wanted to moisturise it. I would say I'd buy it again but it never seems to end, literally one tube is lasting me forever.

  1. My tube lasted me for years, I only got rid of it recently cause it smelt off. I dont really see the hype in it myself as I know it has such a cult following. On the lips it works well though, I will have to try some on my hands when the weather gets rough again, which will no doubt be sooner rather then later. Thanks lovely xx

    1. I've had my tube for years too and i agree the hype isn't there for me. I did notice they've made one with no fragrance which has got to be good as it is an unusual smell.
