Skin Food | Honey Black Tea Cleansing Cream

So, I wanted to try some Korean beauty products after hearing more and more about them of late, and me being me, I found a recommended Korean website (RoseRoseShop) that sells them and looked for something to catch my interest, the most scientific and reasoned way of trying new products right?

After a while browsing I come across Skin Food Honey Black Tea Cleansing Cream, now I'm a huge tea lover, and I also love honey so I'm sold, I don't even check reviews online, I just pop it in my basket and clicked buy.

It also helps that Korean Won is converted into American Dollars, which as we all know is less than our Pound Sterling, so 5,390 the price of the honey black tea cleansing cream, translated to $4.81 or £3.37, total bargain.

The Claims
"This soft and refreshing cleansing cream contains honey, tea, and royal jelly extracts to provide moisturisation and resilience to dry skin, while exfoliating. Lightweight and shine-free, it effectively cleanses pores as well as makeup."
The Ingredients

Water, Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isononyl Isononanoate, Ceresin, C14-22 Alcohols, Polysorbate 80, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hexylene Glycol, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Honey Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Dimethicone, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Sodium Cetyl Sulfate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, PEG-20 Glyceryl Isostearate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-5 Glyceryl Isostearate, PEG-8 Glyceryl Isostearate, Isohexadecane, Royal Jelly Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Butylparaben, CI 19140, Parfum

The Immediate Concerns

The biggest concern for me when looking at the ingredients list is that mineral oil is number two on the list, so it is there in higher concentrations than the wonderful ingredients listed in the claims, in fact the honey, tea and royal jelly are 13th, 14th and 26th respectively. It also contains several parabans and a whole heap of silicones.

How Did It Fair?

Before I even knew about the inclusion of mineral oil I had decided that this really wasn't the cleanser for me, after purchasing but before receiving I read about how others had had problems with this cleanser actually cleansing so I decided I'd use a muslin cloth with it, which upon use seemed to remove makeup a lot more readily than simply washing it off.

However with its consistency of ambrosia cream custard (similar colour too) and the overwhelming smell of old woman that comes from it, and never abates, along with the realisation that it contains some unpleasant ingredients, even if they don't stay in contact with the skin for long, puts me off this completely.

My Conclusion

Save your money and try something else instead.

  1. So glad I read this post! I wanted to try some Korean beauty products for some time and in the last few days I've searched the Internet for some skin care and makeup items, many of them caught my eyes (some are so cute!) then yesterday I came across this brand Skin Food and I knew I've already heard this brand before, it sounds very interesting but of course it needs trying to be sure it's worth it. So yeah thank you for trying this cleansing cream for me/us ;) xx

    1. It's the smell more than anything, so much like little old ladies I couldn't handle it.

    1. I'm gutted but next time I'll do more research rather than buy based on "Oooooooh tea and honey"
